Our CEO, Febe Floré, is celebrating 20 years at Microflor!

It has been two decades since Febe entered Microflor. She joined the sales team and soon began a multi-faceted role that included not only sales, but also close involvement in breeding and laying the very first building blocks for product management. By then, Microflor had already been an established player in the industry for 19 years under the leadership of Ronie Van Rysselberghe. He was her inspiring mentor in whose footsteps she would later follow.

Today, we look back with Febe on these impressive 20 years, during which she witnessed significant changes in the industry. It was a challenging journey for both Microflor as a company, and for Febe as an individual. As she herself says: "Change is crucial for the continuity of a company, but Microflor's core values have always remained unchanged: dedicated, passionate employees striving to breed and grow the best plants."

We did not let this special milestone go unnoticed. As a surprise, we decorated Febe's desk with 20 different varieties, each associated with a specific year. Febe was overwhelmed by the beautiful flowers in her office and enthusiastically dove into the stories each variety brought with it. This personal gesture reflects the unique Microflor Magnificus mentality.

One variety stood out immediately: Antigone, an intense yellow flower that attracted a lot of attention at the time. Febe notes, "Now, many years later, we at Microflor have developed numerous intense yellow varieties, and it is fair to say that we are strong within this colour group."

Febe also shares her two personal favourites from this particular collection. The beautiful spot pattern of PH02221 Firework is pleasing to the eye, although unfortunately this variety cannot compete in terms of productivity. The lush floridity of PH03587 White Punch brings the playful character of the phalaenopsis to life, and what is special is that the branches stay beautifully upright without sagging. Febe strongly believes in the White Punch concept for the future.

In 2012, Febe selected a seedling with a striking harlequin red colour, saying it should never be lost. But as it goes in the world of selection, this seedling ultimately did not meet all the important criteria. "I clearly remember the first time I saw a harlequin red colour in a phalaenopsis, which was in Taiwan at Pony Orchids. I was speechless for 10 minutes then because of the intense colour." Febe, we promise you that we will continue to strive for new seedlings with that beautiful harlequin red colour.

Even after these 20 years full of challenges and opportunities, what does the future bring? Febe shares her vision: "There is growing awareness for people-centred and sustainable business, and I am convinced that this will benefit the happiness of us all. Of course, this also brings big challenges, especially for our sector, but we have an innovative industry that will definitely find the right solutions. We have a brilliant product that contributes to the well-being of all of us. Plants in and around our homes always put a smile on our faces."
